FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Siena men's soccer team (2-1-1, 0-1-0 MAAC) was defeated today by the Fairfeld University Stags 2-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Mark Dietz score the game winner with a goal in the 66th minute. The Stags, ranked 25th in the nation, scored the game's first goal just a minute into the contest when Justin Thompson headed the ball past goalkeeper Jonathan Hicks, off a throw-in from Greg Williams The Saints tied the score at 24:33 when Jack Ketcham (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Ketcham) controlled a pass from Andrew Dunton (Medford, N.Y./Bellport) and scored from the top of the box.

In the second half, Dietz tallied the game-winning goal off a Fairfield corner kick. The kick was short, but Marco Ceresa gained control and passed the ball to Dietz about six yards from the goal. Goalkeeper Roger Noll made six saves in the game, five in the second half, to preserve the win for Fairfield.

The Saints will next be in action when they host Oneonta State on September 27 at 4:00 p.m.
