KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior forward Nicholas McReath and senior forward Steven DeMoura each scored a goal and had an assist as 25th-ranked Rhode Island used a second-half surge to down Siena, 2-0, Friday night in the season opener for both teams at the URI Soccer Complex.

It was a physical game, especially in the scoreless first half, as neither team could convert early on. Siena squandered a golden opportunity when forward Kevin Purcell (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) missed an open net in the fourth minute.

The Rams speed and athleticism proved to be too much for the Saints down in the second half. Senior Peos Tenden and DeMoura set up McCreath with what proved to be the game winner in the 57th minute. Less than five minutes later, DeMoura added an insurance goal for the Rams, who extend a 12-match home winning streak that dates back to 1998.

Tonight's match was the second of a college doubleheader at URI. In the first game, Maine defeated Providence, 2-1. The Saints will play Maine on Sunday at 12 p.m.
