Men's Soccer Picked Ninth in Preseason MAAC Coaches Poll
Aug. 2, 2006 Siena's men's soccer team was picked ninth in a poll of the MAAC's 10 coaches released by the conference today. Senior goalkeeper Patrick Henry was the lone Saint named to the Preseason All-MAAC team. Henry was one of just two keepers named to the 13-member team. "Obviously, we have higher expectations," head coach Charlie Curto said. "Two years ago, we were a game away from winning the regular-season championship. We took a step back last season, but we still know what we can achieve and are confident that we will get things moving in the right direction this fall." Fairfield was the coaches' choice to win the league with 95 points in the poll, eight ahead of second place Loyola (87). Marist was picked third, followed by Saint Peters, Niagara, Iona, Rider, Canisius, Siena and Manhattan. Henry, a tri-captain this season, has been a bulwark in the net throughout his career. He enters his senior season within striking range of fourth on the school's all-time saves chart with 209 career saves. "Throughout the three years that Patrick has been at Siena College, he has proven to me on and off the field that he is a natural born leader," Curto said. "No matter how difficult the circumstances, Patrick always finds a way to get the job done." The Saints return for preseason camp Monday, August 21 and begin their season August 30 at Central Connecticut.
