Men's Soccer Clinches Spot in MAAC Tournament Behind Tagliaferri's Hat-Trick

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Anthony Tagliaferri scored three goals as the Siena men’s soccer team defeated Iona 3-2 in double overtime Friday afternoon in New Rochelle, N.Y. With the win, Siena clinched a spot in the 2008 MAAC Tournament held in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. next weekend. Siena (9-6-1, 7-1) took a 1-0 lead on Tagliaferri’s first goal of the game in the 44th minute. Iona scored less than a minute later to tie it on a goal by Fernando Liserra. Iona (10-6-1, 4-4) jumped out in front on a goal by Taurean Manders at the 54:41 mark. The Saints wouldn’t go quietly though, tying the game in the 89th minute by Tagliaferri. In the second overtime, Tagliaferri scored the golden goal and gave the Saints a 3-2 win. Siena plays their regular-season finale at Fairfield Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
