Late Scoring Spree Ends In Men's Soccer Loss To Marist 2-1
Oct. 29, 2005
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - A defensive battle erupted into a scoring free-for-all over the last 20 minutes with the Saints (3-11-1, 1-4-1) falling short to Marist (7-7-1, 5-2-0) 2-1 in a cold evening game in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the Saints trailing by two, Senior Chris Turcio (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) put a header on goal that rebounded out to Thomas Ciovacco. The Poughkeepsie, N.Y., native corralled the loose ball and fired a shot into the net to bring Siena within a goal at 2-1. The goal was Ciovacco's third of the season and Turcio's assist was his first. After being held scoreless for more than 70 minutes, Marist broke things open with two goals within three minutes of each other. The first goal came at the 71:08 mark off the foot of Keith Detelj which was followed by the game winning goal came from Luis Andre as the clock read 73:15. Siena held the edge in corner kicks 8-4 in the game. The Green and Gold fired three of their seven shots on goal. The Saints travel to Riverdale, N.Y., on Wendesday, November 2, to play Manhattan in a conference game that has been postponed due to weather and field conditions twice this season. Siena then wraps up the regular season with a pair of home games this weekend against Iona on Friday, November 4, and Fairfield Sunday, November 6.
