Niagara Takes Down The Saints 3-1

Loudonville, N.Y. - Men's soccer fell to Niagara 3-1 this afternoon on Siena Field. Senior Kwame Oduro posted two first half goals for the Purple Eagles in a winning effort. Saints forward Thomas Ciovacco added a goal in the 86th minute. Siena outshot the Purple Eagles 16-12 on the day.

Niagara got on the board in early in the first half when Oduro broke free in the box and placed a shot past Saints goalkeeper Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) at 6:29. Less than four minutes later, midfielder Michael Malone tallied his second goal of the year. Malone settled a feed, and then blasted a shot in the top right corner putting Niagara up 2-0. Oduro added his second goal of the game at 34:41. Oduro gathered a rebound in front of the net, and then blasted it into the top left corner. Midfielder Stephen Kauble had two assists on the day.

The Saints rallied in the second half outshooting Niagara 10-4. In the 86th minute, Ciovacco secured a rebound off a Kris Dillmann (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./John Jay) shot, and then blasted it into the back of the net. Ciovacco leads the Saints in scoring with three goals on the year.

Henry registered six saves in 67:35 minutes. Junior Kyle Christiansen (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac) made his sixth appearance in net for the Saints and added two saves. Goalkeepers John Fiutowski and Jason Whitehead split time in goal for the Purple Eagles combining for five saves.

Siena falls to 1-6-1 in league play this year. Saturday, the Saints will celebrate Senior Day versus Marist at 1 p.m. on Siena Field. Niagara remains undefeated in the MAAC (5-0-2). The Purple Eagles welcome Iona to campus on Friday in a 3 p.m. start.
