Oct. 20, 2001
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena gave 11th-ranked Loyola all it could handle, rallying to tie the game before falling short in double overtime 2-1 Saturday afternoon. Steven Coleman scored three minutes into the second extra session to lift the Greyhounds (11-1-2, 7-0 MAAC) to victory. Siena (4-8-1, 3-3 MAAC) had a golden opportunity to pull off the upset. After Kevin Purcell (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) scored unassisted with 10 minutes left to tie the game, the Saints had a chance to win it with a penalty kick in the final two minutes. However, Patrick Wren (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was thwarted by Loyola goalie Reb Beatty. Jonathan Hicks (Merrick, N.Y./Chaminade) made three saves in the loss for the Saints. Loyola outshot the Green and Gold 14-8.
