Men's Soccer Defeats Rider 2-0

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Sophomore Joe Tavernese and freshman David Bonzerato each scored in a 2-0 win at Rider Friday afternoon. The Saints are on a 4-game win streak and share first place with Loyola in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings with a 3-0 record.

Siena (5-5-1, 3-0) jumped on the scoreboard in the 35th minute when Bobby DiFilippo sent a cross to Tavernese who shot it past goalkeeper Chris Pimentel from five yards out.

The Saints extended the lead in the 54th minute on a 20-yard strike from Bonzerato. It was his first career-goal.

Rider (1-10-2, 0-3) out-shot Siena 17-14 in the game.

Nico Tramontana had six of Rider’s 17 shots, including a penalty kick that was saved by Siena goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny. Skonieczny earned his third shutout of the season making six saves. Pimentel made five saves.

The Saints return to action Sunday at undefeated #8 Loyola at 1 p.m.
