Iona Men's Soccer Rallies Past Siena 3-2
Oct. 7, 2001
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - In a back-and-forth game, Lance Rashford scored midway through the second overtime to lead Iona past Siena in a MAAC matchup 3-2 Sunday afternoon. Despite windy and unseasonably cold conditions, the game was offensive in tone throughout. Tom Santoro (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga) got the scoring started for Siena (1-6-1, 1-2 MAAC) early in the first half. Iona (3-8, 1-3 MAAC) rallied twice from deficits on goals by Joseph Mastropietro late in the first half and Jason Nardis midway through the second. Iona outshot Siena 22-13. Saints goalie Jonathan Hicks (Merrick, N.Y./Chaminade) kept the Saints in it with 13 saves. Iona goalie Robert Dolle also made several spectacular game-saving stops. The Saints return to action Tuesday at home against Central Connecticut at 4:00 p.m. Iona 1 1 0 1 3 Siena 1 1 0 0 2 SIE 14:08 Tom Santoro (Joe Vitale) ION 42:23 Joseph Mastropietro (David Kinneman) SIE 49:40 Vinny Russo ION 72:25 Jason Nardis (Luke Shkreli) ION 111:42 Lance Rashford (David Kinneman) Goalies Iona-Robert Dolle (6 SV, 2 GA) Siena-Jonathan Hicks (13 SV, 3 GA) Shots: Iona-22, Siena-13 Corner Kicks: Siena-11, Iona-6
