Men's Soccer Drops Second Straight At Home 2-0 To UMass
Oct. 1, 2005
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Despite outshooting UMass (4-6-0) 11-9, the Siena men's soccer team (2-5-0) found themselves locked in another defensive struggle that they came out on the short end of, 2-0, at Siena Field this afternoon. The Green and Gold fans erupted with two minutes left in the first half in what appeared to be a Siena goal that was whistled dead for an offside violation against the Saints negating the shot. In all, the Saints put five shots on goal in the game with three of them coming from Thomas Ciovacco. Within a three minute span in the second half, the Saints fired off four shots with UMass coming up with a pair of saves and a defensive block. The other shot, a header from Liam Welsh, inched over the crossbar leaving the shot just high. Reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Patrick Henry made four saves in a losing effort. UMass' first goal came at the 52:44 mark, Prince Ofusu served up a pass to Kenneth Cook who hot his head on the ball squeezing it into the right corner of the net for his third goal of the season. In the final minute of play, the Minutemen got an insurance goal as Oral Bullen found Matty LeMire who displayed nice footwork in getting off an uncontested shot that ricocheted off Henry and into the goal. The Saints now embark on a season-long four game road trip with games against Lafayette, St. Peter's, Manhattan, and Binghamton. Siena next returns home on October 14 for a league game against Rider.
