 Men's Soccer Ties at Quinnipiac, 2-2

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.-The Siena men's soccer team battled Quinnipiac (5-0-1) to a 2-2 tie this afternoon in Hamden, Conn. snapping a Bobcats five game winning streak. Siena (3-4-2) freshman Steve Covino and Nick Viaggio posted both goals for the Saints marking the first of their collegiate career. The Saints got on the scoreboard first when fellow freshman Joe Tavernese served one to Viaggio who found the back of the net in the 13th minute. Quinnipiac was quick to respond soon after when sophomore Ross McGibney placed a free kick into the bottom left corner to even the contest. The squads entered intermission locked at 1-1. Covino regained the lead for Siena at the 60:28 mark when he accepted a feed from senior co-captain Jason Laffin at the top of the box and blasted it into the top left corner. The score gave the Saints a 2-1 advantage. Quinnipiac refused to surrender bombarding Siena with 11 second half shots. Then in the 76th minute, Graciano Brito evened the score once again when he found the back of the net off a free kick. The teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods. Siena outshot the Bobcats 7-0 during these extra sessions and 21-18 on the contest. Freshman Steve Skonieczny patrolled the pipes for the Saints for the entire 110 minutes of action. Skonieczny tallied four saves on the afternoon. Frederick Hall managed nine saves in goal for Quinnipiac. The Saints return to action on Friday when they host league rival Loyola for the conference opener. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. on Siena Field.
