Men's Soccer Falls Short In 3-2 Loss In Vermont

Sept. 28, 2005

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena men's soccer team (2-4-0) was locked in another defensive battle with a scoreless game 50 minutes into the contest before Vermont (7-3-0) broke the deadlock and, despite a late rally from the Saints, held on for a 3-2 victory.

The Green and Gold first goal came off of the foot of sophomore forward Thomas Ciovacco at the 78:09 mark. The Poughkeepsie native took advantage of the Vermont defense's inability to clear the zone and blasted a low unassisted shot into the back of the net to bring the Saints to within one, 2-1.

The second goal came with less than a minute left in the game when sophomore Jason Laffin found senior Kris Dillman on a serve into the box which Dillman fired home off a volley to once again bring the Saints within a goal at 3-2.

Reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Patrick Henry made three saves and held Vermont scoreless through the first 51 minutes of play before surrendering the first of three goals.

Siena battled hard to the final seconds as witnessed by a tie in shots, each team fired 13 shots off. Vermont had the slight edge in shots on goal, 6-4.

For Vermont, Danny Broughan recorded two assists.

The Saints return to Siena Field October 1 as they host UMass with a 1 p.m. start time.
