Siena Men's Soccer Takes Capital Region Rivalry Game, Defeat UAlbany 1-0
Sept. 21, 2005
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena men's soccer team (2-2-0) outlasted UAlbany (3-4-1) 1-0 in an emotionally charged game between area-rivals at Siena Field this afternoon. Albany was in control of the pace of the game in the first half out-shooting the Saints 6-3 with three of those shots ending in the hands of junior goalkeeper Patrick Henry. The Lagrangeville native didn't allow any scoring for his second shutout of the season, he made four saves in the contest. The Green and Gold offense was supplied by senior Caio Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) at the 76:39 mark. Silva managed to square his body around and got a strong shot off that skimmed through the fingers of Great Danes goalie Steward Ceus. The ball, though deflected, had just enough life to find its way through the pipes to break the scoreless deadlock. The game featured referees issuing six yellow cards, four to UAlbany and two to Siena. A combined 42 fouls were whistled in the match. The Great Danes out-shot the Saints 9-6 but managed to get off only a single shot on goal after the intermission. For Siena, the win marked the second victory over UAlbany in the men's soccer program history. The Saints play again at Siena Field this Sunday, Sept. 25, as they host Colgate with a 4 p.m. start time.
