Sept. 20, 2003

Box Score

Senior Ptah Myers found the back of the net just over one minute into the second overtime period to lift the University of Massachusetts to a 2-1 double overtime victory over Siena College this afternoon at Siena Field. With the loss, the Saints fall to 0-5 on the season while the Minutemen improve to 6-3 overall.

Sophomore Caio Silva put a ball past the UMass keeper and into the lower right hand corner of the net at the 17:24 mark to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage. The Saints took the one-goal lead into halftime.

UMass tied it up at the 65:35 mark after Siena committed a foul, giving the Minutemen a free kick just outside of the penalty box. Senior Dan Colwell sent the ball soaring into the upper left hand corner of the net, making the score 1-1.

Neither team managed to put away the gamewinner in regulation, as the contest was forced into extra periods. The Minutemen put the pressure on in overtime, firing four shots while holding Siena without an attempt. Myers scored his gamewinner off a ball from Jason Scudamore at the 101:32 mark for win.

Siena keeper Patrick Henry had an impressive game in goal, making six saves, including three key saves in the overtime period to help keep the Saints alive. UMass netminder Nick Billman made two saves while recording the victory in the net for the Minutemen.
