Siena Battles Quinnipiac to 0-0 Tie

Sept. 19, 2008

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena men's soccer battled Quinnipiac to a 0-0 tie Friday night in Loudonville. The two teams combined for 44 fouls and nine yellow cards in the scoreless game.

The defenses held strong for Siena (1-3-1) and Quinnipiac (3-0-2) only allowing a few quality scoring chances. Quinnipiac outshot the Saints 12-7, putting just three on goal. Skonieczny recorded his second shutout of the season by making all three saves. Bobcats goalkeeper Frederick Hall earned his second shutout of the season without recording a save.

Both teams had their best scoring opportunities in the first half. In the 30th minute, Quinnipiac's Graciano Brito broke away from the defense, but senior Zach Gosse came sliding in at the top of the box to tackle the ball away. Siena had a goal called back with less than three minutes to play in the half. Sophomore Sebastien Anzevui hit a cross from the right side to the far post where Anthony Tagliaferri headed it home, but the linesman called the play offside.

The game was physical throughout. Siena compiled 28 fouls and four yellow cards while Quinnipiac had 16 fouls and five yellow cards.

The Saints return to action on Sunday when they play at UAlbany at 3 p.m.
