Sept. 16, 2006

Final Stats

The Saints fell to nationally ranked Fordham University 1-0 in double overtime this afternoon at Siena Field. Dean Stanic notched the game winner at 106:21 assisted by Brian Glennon. The Rams outshot the Saints 21-12 and remain undefeated improving to 5-0-1.

Fordham mounted their attack early out shooting the Saints 16-9 in the first half. The Rams had a scoring opportunity with 16 seconds remaining in the half when sophomore Steve Woicik got behind the Siena defense, fired a shot from the right side only to be saved by the diving Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington). Henry anchored the Siena defense standing tall in net tallying 8 saves on the day.

The Saints had their opportunities late in the second half. In the 85th minute of action freshman Dan Albert (Brampton, Ontario, CAN/Cardinal Leger) lofted a shot from outside the box the ricocheted off the crossbar. Midfielder Vito Urbano (Niskayuna, N.Y./Schalmont) quickly gathered the rebound in front of the goal and fired it just wide of the net.

Both teams went scoreless through the first overtime session. Then with under four minutes remaining in the second overtime Glennon served the ball from the right side cross net to Stanic who placed the ball past Henry for the game winner.

Junior Doug Deveraux accumulated four saves in net for the Rams and earned the win.

Siena travels to face cross-town rival UAlbany on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
