Men's Soccer Battles Central Connecticut State to a 0-0 Tie

Aug. 30, 2006

Final Stats

Siena (0-0-1) took its home opener to the 110th minute with Central Connecticut State in a 0-0 tie Wednesday afternoon in Loudonville.

The Blue Devils mounted their attack early with a header by Ben Howe (Havelock North, New Zealand/Havelock North) that found the back of the net in the 10th minute of action, only to be wiped away by an offside penalty. Another close call came with 19:26 left in the half when sophomore David Tyrie launched a shot on goal off a corner kick, only to be stopped by a diving Kyle Christiansen (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac) save.

Christiansen recorded a shutout, tallying three saves. He received a spot start in lieu of injured captain Patrick Henry.

Siena had scoring opportunities in the second half when Liam Welsh (West Town, N.Y.,Minisink Valley) broke free on the left side feeding senior Kris Dillmann (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./John Jay) for a deflected shot that trickled just right of the goal.

The Saints defense, anchored by freshman Greg Young (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa), clamped down in overtime holding Central Connecticut scoreless.

Blue Devils freshman goalie Paul Armstrong (Liverpool, England/St. Margarets) finished the day with four saves. Christiansen tallied 3 saves in the dual shutout effort.

Siena travels to Philadelphia on Tuesday to face Drexel University at 7 P.M.
