Siena Men's Lacrosse Announces Captains and Fall Scrimmages

Oct. 15, 2008

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena men's lacrosse announces Chris Viviano, Kenny Mazzone, and Dan Mulhall as captains for the 2009 season. Siena will compete in a 3-team tournament Saturday at Binghamton University. The Saints will play Binghamton at 10:30 a.m. and Villanova at 12:30 p.m. followed by a final scrimmage against Onondaga Community College in Syracuse at 4:30 p.m.

"The coaching staff feels confident that we have three fine young men that have the program's best interest in mind," said head coach Brian Brecht. "Mazzone and Viviano were recruited not only to make plays but to be leaders from day one as we continue to take steps to grow as a program. Mulhall is a self made player that not only earned the role of captain but over the last three years has been our program's most improved player. They will lead us this weekend, through winter workouts, and in the coming season."

Viviano, a senior defenseman, is a two-time MAAC First Team selection and served as co-captain last year. Mazzone, a senior midfielder, is a four-year starter and will be a captain for the third time in his career for the Saints. Mulhall, a senior defenseman, is a local product who walked on as a freshman. He is a two-year starter at long pole.

"I'm excited about our fall scrimmages," said Brecht. "It will be a great opportunity for our team to come together and for our incoming class to get a taste of the speed of the Division I game. We've been practicing with a lot of energy and look forward to competing against some other programs."
