Men's Lacrosse Brian Brecht Named Co-Coach of the Year
May 5, 2005 EDISON, NJ--Head coach Brian Brecht was named Co-Coach of the Year for his efforts in guiding the Siena men's lacrosse team to a 4-11 overall record and 2-6 in league play. Brecht shares the honor with Manhattan's Tim McIntee as announced today by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Brecht in his first season as the Saints leader came to Siena after completing his third season as an assistant coach at MAAC foe, Loyola College where he worked as the offensive coordinator and worked with the team's extra-man offense. This season, the Saints out-scooped their opponents 457 - to - 406 in groundballs and forced 100 caused turnovers, good for a first place finishing (7.25) and in the top five statistical categories in assists per game (4.0), groundballs per game (30.62), man-up scoring (.278) and save percentage (.545). Junior attackman, Matt Walsh (Northport, NY) was named to the All-MAAC Second Team; Walsh garnered the honor after finishing a stellar season leading the Saints with 25 goals, 15 assists for 40 points. Siena also placed five student-athletes on the 2005 MAAC All-Academic Team. Juniors John Bamford (Woodbridge, VA), Phillip Ferrara (Stony Points, NY), Tom O'Gara (New City, NY), along with fellow sophomores David Jalette (Orange, Conn.) and Ted Moran (Huntington, NY) were named to the team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at his institution, be a starter or significant reserve, and hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
