Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena men's lacrosse head coach Brian Brecht announced earlier this afternoon that junior defenseman Chris Viviano has been elevated to captain effective immediately. Viviano joins fellow captains JP Mulhall, Tim Hannigan and Kenny Mazzone as the Saints tread forward to their goal of a MAAC Championship.
"I believe that your better players have to be the hardest workers and the most committed to the program and Chris is all of that," noted Brecht. "Our success in the early part of this season is a direct reflection of his effort and leadership and thus with the season coming into full swing now, it is only fitting that he will continue to lead us on the field as well as be recognized with the honor of being a captain."
A native of New Hyde Park, N.Y., Viviano was selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team as well as Preseason All-Conference by the Inside Lacrosse Face-off Yearbook. Viviano has lived up to and even surpassed expectations thus far serving as a vocal leader both on and off the field while also contributing some key performances.
Viviano has started all eight of Siena's games on the defensive unit this year and leads all defensemen with three goals. He has also added 22 groundballs and caused five turnovers.
The Saints resume action with their new quad-captain on Saturday against Providence. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. from Siena Turf Field.
