Box Score

Siena built on a 5-3 halftime lead with three straight goals in the third quarter and outscored Virginia Military Institute 7-1 in the second half to defeat the Keydets 12-4 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Virginia. The Saints remain unbeaten in MAAC play at 4-0 as Jordan Loftus led the effort with four goals and two assists.

John Rogener got Siena (6-5, 4-0) on the scoreboard first with a goal off a pass from Ryan Duggan at the 8:18 mark of the first quarter. VMI (1-10, 0-5) tied it up two minutes later on a man-up goal by Tim Moran. Siena's man-down defense ranked third in the nation entering this week, killing off 83.3% of opponents' extra-man opportunities. Both teams were 1-for-1 in man-up situations.

Siena scored four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead with 2:06 remaining in the half. The Keydets responded with two goals before halftime to cut the deficit to two goals.

The Saints came out strong in the third quarter as Shaun Dunn, Bryan Neufeld and Loftus all tallied their second goals of the game. Jacob Weimer scored with two minutes left in the third quarter to bring his team within four goals. But Siena shut the door with four goals in the fourth quarter, two off the stick of Loftus, and went on to win their fourth consecutive game.

Brent Herbst (6-4) earned the win as he made eight saves and allowed just four goals. Sean McCoy made nine saves for the Keydets.

The Saints controlled the pace as they outshot the Keydets 40-25 and converted all 22 of their clear attempts.

After scoring eight points in his first six games in the Green and Gold, Loftus has caught fire in the last three games tallying 17 points (12 G, 5 A). Dunn and Neufeld finished the game with two goals and one assist apiece while Duggan had one goal and two assists.

The Saints have exacted revenge on two of the four MAAC teams (St. Joseph's, VMI, Canisius, Providence) that beat them by one goal each and kept them out of the MAAC Tournament last season. Siena defeated Saint Joseph's and VMI this season by a combined score of 25-8 and will try and make it 3-for-3 in its next game.

Siena returns to action on Wednesday when they host defending MAAC champion Canisius at Siena Turf Field. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
