Saints Cruise Past Seahawks 15-4; Improve to 3-0 in the MAAC

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Faus Bernabo scored just 10 seconds into the game and Siena never looked back as they defeated Wagner 15-4 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Siena Turf Field. Siena outshot Wagner 45-17 and dominated all facets of the game. They have won the last six meetings with the Seahawks. Siena (5-5, 3-0) won the opening face-off and Kenny Mazzone fed Bernabo in front of the cage who turned and shot it past Peter Rubin for his first career goal. Siena scored three more goals to make it 4-0 at the end of the first period. They dominated Wagner (1-10, 0-3) with scoring chances, outshooting them 13-3 in the opening period. Will Macumber put the Seahawks on the scoreboard with his 10th goal of the season just over a minute into the second period. But Bryan Neufeld responded with his second goal of the game to put Siena up 5-1. It was the first of 10 consecutive goals they would score. Neufeld, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, finished the game with four goals and one assist. The Saints led 9-1 at the half courtesy of eight different goal scorers. Chris Zarins' goal at the 8:15 mark of the second period was his 100th career point and makes him the 18th player to reach that plateau in school history. Chris D'Alberti scored his fifth goal of the season less than two minutes into the second half and Siena took over where they left off. The Saints outscored Wagner 5-0 in the period as Loftus and Neufeld completed their hat-tricks. Freshman Patrick Daley scored his first collegiate goal with eight seconds remaining in the third quarter and gave Siena a 14-1 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Wagner tallied three of its four goals in the fourth period. Macumber assisted Mike Hurley and then scored his second goal of the game with 31 seconds left in the game. He finished with two goals and one assist. Siena won 18-of-24 face-offs with Montgomery leading the way (12-of-16). Brett Heim (5-of-7) and Charly Rogener (1-1) also had success at the face-off X. Ryan Duggan led all players with five assists and 13 other Saints registered a point. Brent Herbst (5-4) made three saves and allowed one goal in 30 minutes. Tom Morr played 15 minutes of shutout ball and Bill Kelly made five saves in the fourth period. Rubin (1-9) made 11 saves for Wagner. Siena returns to action next Saturday when they play Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. |
