Several Siena Golfers Recognized for Season Accomplishments

April 30, 2008

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena men's and women's golf teams had several players recognized by conference officials for strong seasons both on and off the course. Women's golfer Katelynn Mannix was named Rookie of the Year, while Don DeNyse III took home the same honor for the men. Sophomore Bridget Carr, who was an integral part to the women's MAAC Championship victory over the weekend was part of the conference's All-Academic Team.

Mannix, a freshman from Plattsburgh, N.Y. added Rookie of the Year honors to her long list of accomplishments this season. Earlier this spring she was named MAAC Player of the Month for both March and April. At the MAAC Championships last weekend Mannix had her most impressive performance of the season, capturing her first individual title in leading the Saints to their eighth straight championship.

A native of Albany, N.Y., DeNyse had a stellar freshman season both in the fall and the spring, placing in the top-20 individually in seven of the nine tournaments in which he competed in. He also finished as high as the top-10 on four occasions including a career-best second overall finish at the Lehigh Invitational last fall. He capped his season with a 10th place finish overall at the MAAC Championships last weekend.

Carr, who hails from Snyder, N.Y., has accrued a 3.37 cumulative GPA as a marketing and management major. She greatly improved as the spring season went along and finished with one of the best showings of her collegiate career, placing third overall at the MAAC Championships with a season-low three round score of 238.
