Final Round of Cornell Men's Golf Invitational Cancelled

Sept. 28, 2008

The final round of the Cornell men's golf invitational has been postponed due to inclement weather in central New York. As a result, with only 18 holes completed, the event concluded with the Saints finishing second overall and co-captain Dan Abbondandolo winning the individual title for a second consecutive season.

Delaware (287) won by the slimmest of margins, capturing the team trophy by just one single stroke over the Saints (288) in denying the Green and Gold its first team victory since coming from behind on the final day to capture the Hofstra Invitational on Oct. 13 of last year.

Almost a year ago to the day, Abbondandolo captured his first of what has turned out to be several individual championships, claiming victory on a playoff hole at last season's Cornell Invitational.

Abbondandolo fired a first round score of 67 to finish five under par and claim victory over Delaware's Stephen Scialo (69) who proved to be his nearest competition.

Freshman Justin Deitz (-1) joined Abbondandolo as one of two Saints to finish under par. He completed the tournament tied for fifth overall. The Siena team as a whole was equally strong as no player finished worse than four over par.

The Saints return to the links Oct. 10 for the first round of the ECAC Championships.
