Men's Golf Eighteenth Through Round 1 at NCAA Regional's

Chardon, OH. - Senior Robby Bigley (Rotterdam, NY) carded three birdies on his round en route to firing a 2-over par 71 Thursday to lead the Siena College men's golf team in the opening round of the 2006 NCAA Central Regional's at the Sand Ridge Golf Club par 71 - 7173 yards course. The Saints finished the first day of the event in sole possession of 18th place with a team score of 18-over 302. "For our team, I feel that we got off to a good start," said Siena head coach Tom Wronowski. " Bigley is currently in a tie for 35th place with 13 other golfers and he leads the Saints clubhouse with a 73. Junior Bryan Bigley (Rotterdam, NY finished one stroke behind Bigley after carding a 3-over 71 for a 49th- place tie, a round that included an even-par 35 on the front nine. Junior Dennis Gosier (Gansevoort, N.Y.) is in a tie for 92nd after posting his first round of 18 holes with a 6-over 71, while fellow juniors Allen Parker (Blandford, Mass.) and Alex Arrigo (Lowville, N.Y.) are in a tie for 106th and 138th, respectively. "Our guys drove the ball really well today and we are very excited to be in the hunt for a top 10 finish", said Wronowski. Oklahoma finished the day atop the leaderboard with a 4-under 280 and currently leads the Regional's by four strokes over Northwestern and Texas A & M. Junior Chris Wilson of Northwestern University has grabbed an early one-stroke lead in the race for medalist honors after firing a 4-under 67 with four golfers sitting one stroke back in a tie for second place at 4-under 68.
Heading into Friday play, the Saints are ahead of top seeds Colorado (19), Missouri (20), Nebraska (21) and Kansas State (22). The Saints are paired with Princeton and St. Francis-Pennsylvania in the second round and will tee off from the first tee beginning at 12:59 p.m. Saints Individual Scores
