Fans Send Off Men's Basketball Team in Style
Aug. 13, 2008
Over 100 Siena supporters convened at the Marcelle Athletic Complex Tuesday evening for the annual Saints Alive! summer picnic. This year's event held an Italian theme and helped raise money for the men's basketball team's upcoming trip to Italy. Fans were treated to an open practice in the Alumni Recreation Center before enjoying a picnic featuring Italian delicacies outside the MAC. Head basketball coaches Gina Castelli and Fran McCaffery addressed the crowd. McCaffery thanked the crowd for its continued support and for helping finance what he promised would be "the trip of a lifetime" for the members of his team. The men's basketball team departs for Italy Saturday, leaving for New York's JFK Airport from the Siena campus at noon. Their direct flight from JFK is set to touch down in Milan Sunday morning. The Saints will visit Lake Como, Venice, San Marino, Florence, Siena and Rome before returning home on August 29.
