Men's Basketball Team Recognized on Floor of New York Senate
May 5, 2008
The Siena men's basketball team spent much of Monday afternoon at the New York State Capitol building where Senate Resolution 5617 was read into the legislative books recognizing the many accomplishments the Saints achieved on the court this past season. Following the reading of the resolution, several state senators offered their congratulations and words of praise for members of the team and coaching staff, all of which watched from a balcony overlooking the proceedings. Senate majority leader Joseph Bruno and senator Neil Breslin introduced the resolution, which passed unanimously on April 30 and was read in its entity before the senate, team members, onlookers and local media shortly after 3 p.m. Monday. "All of you have represented your school, community and the great Empire State well," Bruno said from the floor of the senate following the reading of the resolution. "You are tremendous role models, and we all look forward to the many exciting seasons to come." Following the formal proceedings, the Saints were ushered to the vacant lieutenant governor's office (a post temporarily filled by Bruno) where they met with senators and posed for formal photographs. "This was an amazing experience," junior standout Kenny Hasbrouck said. "I have never been part of anything like this, and it feels great to know our success this season had an impact on so many people. I'm proud with the way we represented Siena and the entire State of New York."
