Kenny Hasbrouck Named Mid-Major Player of the Year

April 4, 2008

Siena College junior Kenny Hasbrouck has been named Mid-Major Player of the Year by Collegeinsider.com. The award considers student-athletes from 22 of the 31 NCAA men's basketball Division I conferences.

Hasbrouck was a preseason and postseason First Team All-MAAC selection this season. He was also named MAAC Tournament MVP and was a NABC District 2 Second Team selection. Earlier in the week, Hasbrouck and teammate Edwin Ubiles were selected to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major All-American team, which consisted of 21 student-athletes.

Hasbrouck has over 1,400 career points, ranking eighth on Siena's all-time charts with a full year still remaining in his collegiate career. He averaged 16.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.3 assists and was the only Saint to start all 34 games this season.

Several Division I coaches and NBA scouts are part of the CollegeInsider's selection process, but final decision rests with the collegeinsider.com staff.

The following conferences are considered in CollegeInsider's Mid-Major polls and accolades: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit League, Sun Belt, West Coast.

Hasbrouck is the first MAAC player to be named Mid-Major Player of the Year, though Sean Kennedy (Marist 2002) and Jerry Johnson (Rider - 2005) were each named Mid-Major MVP. The 2007 Mid-Major Player of the Year Award went to Caleb Green (Oral Roberts).
