Baseball Has Five Student-Athletes Named to MAAC All-Academic Team
May 24, 2007 Siena had five student-athletes named to the 48-member MAAC Baseball All-Academic Team, announced at Wednesday night's pre-Tournament Awards Banquet. Senior Trevor Reid was joined by juniors Jake Willis and Chris Klepps and sophomores Jason DeFilippo and Will Hassett. Reid (Harrisburg, Pa.) posted a 3.62 GPA in finance as an undergraduate. He made 44 collegiate appearances and 19 starts, striking out 72 batters and walking just 55 in 146+ innings of work. He won nine games for the Saints over his four-year career. Willis (Niantic, Conn.) owns a 3.48 GPA in finance. He led the Saints with a .339 batting average, collecting 56 hits in 45 games. The two-time MAAC Second Team selection posted a .479 slugging percentage in 2007 and stole seven bases in eight attempts. Klepps (Bristol, Conn.) amassed a 3.71 cumulative GPA as an English major. He was second on the team with a .331 batting average, notching 47 hits in 39 games played. Klepps stole seven bases and scored 23 runs. DeFilippo (Glouchester, Mass.) carries a 3.70 GPA in finance. As a sophomore, he started all but one of Siena's 45 games in centerfield, finishing fifth on the team with a .256 batting average. DeFilippo led the Saints with 29 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. Hassett (N. Bellmore, N.Y.) has a 3.42 GPA as an undecided business major. He made 15 appearances in relief for the Saints this spring, posting 22 strikeouts in 26 innings of work. He finished second on the team with three saves despite missing the final two weeks of the season with an injury. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Manhattan College led all schools with 12 members named to the team. Saint Peter's College had seven student-athletes, while LeMoyne College and Niagara University each had six. Siena College added five members, and both Fairfield University and Rider University had four athletes. Iona College had three members named to the team, and Canisius College rounded out the team with one athlete.
