 Siena Places Conference-High 10 Student-Athletes on MAAC Women's Cross Country All Academic Team
Nov. 4, 2002 A total of 43 athletes comprise the 2002 New York Lottery MAAC Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced following its championships on Friday. Nearly a quarter of the honorees were from Siena, which landed a MAAC-high 10 student-athletes on the distinguished list. Twin sisters Kim and Michelle Milton led the way on the course and the classroom for the Saints this season. The duo each finished in the top-five at the conference championships and both boast a 3.6 grade point average in computer science. Seniors Megan Baumgart and Dana Birbiglia and juniors Sudah Koganti, Kathryn Materazzo and Kristen Murphy made repeat appearances on the list. Sophomores Michelle Hodgson and Joan Paul rounded out the Siena honorees making their first appearance on the all-academic squad. The Saints finished third in the 10-team MAAC at the conference championships on Friday. Below is a complete list of the Siena student-athletes who were honored. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Loyola College and Marist College both had six runners. Canisius College had five selected, while Niagara University had four. Iona College, Manhattan College and Saint Peter's College had three runners each, while Rider University had two. Fairfield University rounded out the team with one athlete.
