Siena Cross Country Opens Season at Hartford Invitational

HARTFORD, CONN. - The Siena College men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons at the University of Hartford Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The women finished eighth of nine teams, while the men finished eighth of eight.

The women's five-kilometer race was won by Marist's Liza Grudzinski, who set a meet record with an 18:30.8 finish, more than 30 seconds better than second place finisher Caron Marra of Delaware. The Marist women won the team competition with 30 points, followed by Maine at 51 and Delaware at 61.

Siena's top finisher was sophomore Alex Kenworthy (Glen Rock, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy), who finished in 47th place overall with a time of 21:52.2. Stacey McCahey finished 54th overall at 22:16.5

On the men's side, Maine won the team competition, placing its top five runners among the top 15 places. The Black Bears finished first with 36, followed by Marist and Delaware. Marist's Gregory Salamone won the five-mile race in 26:28.8.

Siena's top finisher was freshman Kieran Vincent (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge), who finished in 63rd place at 30:13.3.
