Siena sophomore makes mark at Boston Marathon

2000

ALBANY, N.Y. - Siena College sophomore cross country member Jeanine Gilchrist (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Lewis S. Mills) participated in, and finished the Boston Marathon yesterday.

Gilchrist ran the 45K course in 3:58:48 finishing in 10,844 place of 17,813 participants. Of the 6,371 female entrees, Gilchrist placed 3,037. It was the first time the 21-year old Saratogan had participated in the race.

"It is a great statement for our program to have Jeanine qualify and finish the Boston Marathon," said head coach Jim Bowles who also ran in the race. "Given the (cold and rainy) conditions, her performance was exceptional."

Bowles looks forward to placing more Siena cross country members in the race next year. "It is my goal to have the whole team run the race in the future, so we can bring more exposure to the program."
