Women Race Seventh, Men Eighth at MAAC Cross Country Championships

The Siena women's cross country team placed seventh Friday in the annual MAAC cross country championships held at Van Cortland Park in New York. The men's team was eighth in the 10-team field.

Freshman Carly Calogero, the reigning MAAC Women's Runner of the Week, finished 18th on the women's side, just four seconds ahead of senior captain Megan Davey who came in 19th. The pair completed the 5K course in 23:34 and 23:38 respectively. Keelin Wellott, Andrea Hollinger and Samantha Grady placed 41st, 42nd and 43rd to round out Siena's top five (scoring) finishers.

The women had a team total of 163, well clear of eighth place Fairfield (226). Iona (17) won the championship with five runners in the top six finishers. Marist (87), Manhattan (95), Loyola (113), Rider (132) and Niagara (150) rounded out the top six.

On the men's side, Darren Legere crossed the 8K line in 27:01. Legere's time placed him 23rd overall. Jed Turnbull placed 44th in 28:23. John Hart (48th), Shane Leighton (50th) and Paul Notar (55th) completed Siena's top five runners.

Iona easily captured the men's title as well, with a final score of 17. The remaining order of finish was: Marist (52), Manhattan (96), Loyola (112), Rider (132), Niagara (132), Canisius (174), Siena (220),Fairfield (277) and Saint Peter's (312).
