Oct. 2, 2004

Results

The Saints placed four runners in the top-10 en route to a convincing men's cross-country score at the annual Fairfield Invitational Saturday afternoon. Siena topped Hofstra, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter's and Pace. The Siena women's team placed fourth in a field of six.

Freshmen John Hart continued the promising start of his career with a fifth place finish individually in 26:58.9. Hart was followed closely by Patrick Gaffney (6th), and classmates Justin Diano (7th) and Joe Choinere (10th). Booby Oerzen rounded out Siena's scoring five in 13th place, narrowly edging out Andrew Knipfing who was just two seconds behind.

Siena's total score of 41 was 22 points better than second place Hoftsra. Host Fairfield, the nearest MAAC competitor, scored 99.

Joan Paul ran a sensational race to finish fourth and lead the Siena women individually. Paul crossed the 5K line in 19:42.1. Katie Luker (12th), Ashley Dwyer (18th), Meghan Davey (23rd) and Katie Bubnack (27th) completed the Siena quintet.

The Saints return to action at Rider next Saturday.
