Cross Country Team Has Impressive Debut in Fordham Invitational

Sept. 11, 2004

Freshmen John Hart and Joe Choiniere placed in the top-75 individually to pace a strong effort by the Siena men's cross country team in a regional meet at Fordham Saturday. Kate Luker and Joan Paul placed in the top-60 to lead the Siena women.

Racing some of the top teams in the area, the Siena men defeated programs such as: Sacred Heart, USMMA, Fairfield, Seton Hall and St. Bonaventure. The only MAAC team to defeat the Saints was traditional power Iona, which finished in seventh place. Pat Gaffney, Andrew Knipfing and Bobby Oerzen joined Hart and Choiniere in the Siena top-five, each finishing the course in under 29:30.

On the women's side, the Saints defeated both MAAC schools in the competition, Iona and Fairfield, as well as Seton Hall, St. Bonaventure, Pace, NYIT and St. Francis. Newcomers Ashley Dwyer, Katie Bobnack and Jen Stacey rounded out the Siena scorers.

Siena returns to action September 25 in Syracuse where they will partake in the Orange Classic.
