Greg Dashnaw
Greg Dashnaw enters his 17th year as head athletic trainer at Siena College. He is responsible for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to Siena's athletes. Dashnaw is responsible for 19 intercollegiate athletic teams and approximately 350 athletes. He has helped the Albany Patroons (Continental Basketball Association) and Albany Capitals (American Soccer League) in the training and treatment of their athletes. He also served on the medical support staff at the Empire State Games from 1980-1990. Dashnaw also served as a trainer for the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League from 1995-2000. During the summer, Dashnaw serves as the head athletic trainer for the Siena sports camps. The camp, which run for eight weeks, attract over 2,000 campers. Two year's ago, Dashnaw was recognized by Siena's student-athletes, when he was presented with the initial Student Athlete Advisory Council award. This distinction is presented to the person, who in the opinion of the student-athletes has had the most positive impact on their athletic life at Siena. A Harrisville, N.Y., native, Dashnaw was the first recipient of the Howard J. Tucker Award for outstanding contribution to Siena basketball. He received an undergraduate degree from Plattsburgh State in 1981. At Plattsburgh, he served as student trainer for varsity sports. From Plattsburgh, Dashnaw went to Albany State (N.Y.) where he worked toward a master's degree while serving as assistant trainer. A member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Dashnaw resides in Albany.
Jessica Horan Head athletic trainer Greg Dashnaw announced the hiring of Jessica Horan to the position of assistant athletic trainer at Siena College. She will assist with all aspects of the operations of Siena's athletic training room. "We are very lucky to have Jessica on board at Siena," Dashnaw commented. "When you seek the best you get the best. Jessica has a great attitude, and after working with her for two years, I knew of her dedication to the treatment of student athletes." No stranger to Siena, Horan has spent the last two years working Siena's summer camps while enrolled at Russell Sage College where she earned her B.S. in athletic training in 2005. While with the Gators, she worked as a Teacher's Assistant for Sports Medicine I Lab and served as a student athletic trainer for the women's soccer team during her sophomore year. Horan joins the athletic department after one year with The College of Saint Rose where she oversaw soccer, volleyball, track, basketball, swimming, baseball, softball and tennis. Prior to coming to Siena, Horan was a student trainer at South Colonie CSD where she worked for the boy's and girl's middle and high school athletic teams. The 2005 valedictorian at Russell Sage received the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association Undergraduate Scholarship Award and was named to Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Horan is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and is certified in First Aid, CPR and AED.
Dr. Joe Marotta
Joe Marotta begins his seventh year on the Siena College sports medicine staff as an orthopedic consultant. Marotta is a 1980 graduate of Siena where he was a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team. He then earned his M.D. in June of 1984 from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. A vast background in orthopedic medicine, Marotta served an Internship in the Department of Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia (1984-85) and served a Residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University, New England Medical Center (1986-89). He also was Chief Resident at New England Baptist Hospital (1989) and was a Sports Medicine Fellow at the Children's' Hospital of Boston, Harvard Medical School (1990). Marotta also has extensive experience as a team physician. He served as assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics (1990), was the team doctor for Hudson Valley Community College and the University at Albany (1992), and most recently served as team physician for the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League. An avid cyclist, Marotta currently serves on the Siena College Alumni Association Board of Directors and is the chairman of the Samaritan Hospital Ethics Committee. Marotta, his wife Kathleen and their two children, Joseph John and Anna Rose, reside in Troy. |
