June 13, 2007

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena men's soccer and women's water polo teams were proclaimed 2006-07 S.A.IN.T.S. Cup champions for their superb efforts both on and off the field throughout the academic year. Both teams will officially be awarded the fourth annual S.A.IN.T.S. Cup at the Student-Athlete Welcome Back Barbeque this fall.

This past year, the men's soccer and women's water polo teams finished with the two highest overall point totals for the five S.A.IN.T.S. Cup categories. In addition to holding the Cup for the next academic year, each team will be awarded $500 that is added to the team's budget to be used at the coaches' and players' discretion.

The men's soccer team finished with 3,031.75 total points which marked the highest among the Siena's seven men's athletic programs. The women's water polo team scored the highest in the women's competition finishing with 2,897.5 points. Men's lacrosse was the runner up as they tallied 3,015 total points.

The S.A.IN.T.S. Cup is a competition created to encourage participation in the Champs/Life Skills Program at Siena College. It gives student-athletes the opportunity to gain experience and earn points in the five main NCAA Champs/Life Skills components (academic excellence, career development, personal development, community service, and athletic excellence). The focus of the program is to develop the individual as a role model, team member, and community leader.
